Industrial Network for a RAK Warehouse & Logistics Facility

Huawei eKit wide-area WiFi and PoE switch deployment across 5,000 sqm of open logistics warehouse space in Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone — enabling barcode scanner operations and PoE CCTV.

Client: Logistics / WarehousingLocation: RAK Free Trade ZoneChallenge: 5,000 sqm with no networkSolution: Huawei eKit WiFi + 48-Port PoE

The Challenge

A logistics company operating a new warehouse facility in RAK Free Trade Zone had no existing structured network infrastructure. The 5,000 sqm single-floor building needed WiFi for handheld barcode scanners used in picking and stock-taking operations. Additionally, the facility required 20 IP cameras for security — but there was no budget or timeline for running separate power cables across the warehouse. All cabling needed to be done in a single Cat6 pull, with power and data delivered over the same cable.

What the Client Needed

  • Wide-area WiFi covering the entire 5,000 sqm open floor plan — no dead spots at any racking aisle
  • Reliable connectivity for 15 handheld barcode scanners running a WMS application
  • PoE power for 20 IP cameras without additional power cabling
  • Fibre uplink from the server room to the warehouse floor distribution point
  • Managed switch for VLAN separation of CCTV and data networks

The Solution

Netbiz Technology conducted a site survey and designed a ceiling-mount AP layout using 8 Huawei eKit AP371 units, spaced across the warehouse rafters at 8m height. A single Huawei eKit S310-48P4X 48-port PoE switch was installed in the server room, providing sufficient PoE budget for all APs and all 20 cameras simultaneously. Single-mode SFP fibre modules were used to run a 1G uplink from the server room to a floor-level distribution patch panel, keeping long cable runs on fibre rather than copper.

Network Design Overview

Core switch: S310-48P4X in the server room — all camera and AP runs terminate here. PoE delivered over Cat6 to each device.

Uplink: SFP single-mode fibre from switch to a wall-mount patch point near the warehouse entry, providing the primary data uplink.

VLAN design: VLAN 10 for barcode scanner and general data traffic; VLAN 20 for CCTV cameras, isolated from the operational network.

AP placement: 8 AP371 units mounted on ceiling trusses at roughly 25m spacing, covering all racking aisles with overlapping signal for roaming continuity as staff move with scanners.

Frequently Asked Questions

What WiFi access points work in large open warehouses in UAE?

For large open warehouses, ceiling-mount access points with high transmit power and wide beam coverage are required. The Huawei eKit AP371 provides WiFi 6 coverage across wide open areas and can be ceiling-mounted at 6–8m height. Eight units planned correctly can cover a 5,000 sqm warehouse.

How do you connect IP cameras in a warehouse without running power cables?

PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches deliver both data and power over a single Cat6 cable. The Huawei eKit S310-48P4X PoE switch powered all 20 IP cameras from the server room, eliminating the need for separate power cabling across the warehouse floor.

Can Huawei eKit equipment handle industrial environments?

Huawei eKit AP371 access points are rated for indoor industrial environments with dust exposure. For extreme outdoor or high-humidity areas, specific outdoor-rated APs should be selected. In this warehouse — an enclosed building — indoor-rated equipment was appropriate.
