Huawei eKit AP362E Review: WiFi 6 Wall-Plate AP for Hotels and Offices

The Huawei eKit AP362E solves a specific problem: how to deliver in-room WiFi 6 in a hotel or office without running an additional cable to each room and without mounting a ceiling AP that guests see and pull at. It replaces a standard dual-port wall socket, provides Ethernet ports for in-room devices, includes PoE passthrough for an IP desk phone, and broadcasts WiFi 6 from inside the room at close range. It is one of the most practical products in the eKit range.

The Wall-Plate Form Factor Advantage

In a hotel room, a ceiling-mount AP in the corridor must penetrate a wall (6–10 dB loss) plus the distance from wall to guest (further signal degradation). The AP362E is inside the room, typically 1–3 metres from the guest. The difference in RSSI is dramatic: a corridor AP might deliver -65 dBm to the far corner of a room; the AP362E delivers -40 to -50 dBm everywhere in the room.

The AP362E's smart antenna is directional — it focuses the radiated signal into the room rather than wasting power radiating into the corridor or the adjacent room. This reduces co-channel interference between rooms while maximising signal inside.

PoE Passthrough: One Cable, Two Powered Devices

One of the AP362E's most useful features for UAE hotel and office deployments is PoE passthrough. A single Cat6 cable from the floor switch powers the AP and the AP then provides PoE power to a connected IP desk phone. This means you do not need a separate PoE adapter or separate cable run for the phone — the AP acts as a mid-span power injector.

The passthrough delivers up to 7.4W (Class 2 PoE), sufficient for standard IP desk phones from Cisco, Polycom, Yealink, and similar brands. Note that PoE passthrough requires the upstream switch port to provide enough budget for both the AP (~8W) plus the phone (~7.4W), so the switch port needs at least ~15.4W available — well within the S310's 30W per port rating.

Ethernet Downlink Ports

The AP362E provides two Gigabit downlink ports on its face plate. In a hotel room, these typically connect to the smart TV (for reliable IPTV streaming) and a bedside device or laptop dock. In an office cubicle, they connect the workstation and a VoIP phone (powered via PoE passthrough).

Having wired ports on the AP eliminates the need for a separate in-room switch in most hotel and office deployments, reducing both cost and cabling complexity.
